Heart and Diabetes Center (HDZ) North Rhine Westfalia (NRW)
HDZ - expertise and reliability – guarantee for long-term success
An extremely high level of specialization in anesthesiology, as well as close collaboration between departments, is essential in high risk cardiothoracic and vascular procedures. Leading the way is the Institute of Anesthesiology at Germany’s HDZ NRW.
The Heart and Diabetes Center, North Rhine Westfalia is an international centre focused on treating cardiac, thoracic, vascular and diabetic diseases. It serves as a University Hospital of Germany’s Ruhr-University Bochum, providing research and training across these areas.
At the heart of HDZ, the Institute of Anesthesiology specializes in high-risk patients undergoing cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. The team here provides anaesthesia to around 7000 of these patients a year including adults, children and babies during a wide range of difficult procedures, including heart and lung transplantation, as well as assistive device implantation for heart insufficiency.
At the same time, the team is focused on training the next generation of anaesthesiologists. Experienced instructors with an average of over 18000 hours of cardiac anaesthesia experience are able to guarantee an extremely efficient and focused evidence-based training program for all procedures.
