Institute of Neuroscience & Medicine at Forschungszentrum Jülich is home to a worldwide unique €20 million imaging platform for studying the human brain. This platform comprises a multimodal 9.4T MR-PET-EEG for human brain imaging and it enables access to anatomical MRI simultaneously with functional/metabolic imaging. The techniques required for simultaneously acquiring multimodal MR-PET-EEG data in a human 9.4T scanner are extremely challenging and these are being developed to provide a platform for “ANATABOLIC” brain imaging. We have demonstrated that the three modalities are complementary: MRI provides excellent structural and functional imaging, PET provides molecular imaging, and EEG provides exquisite temporal resolution.
