Ageing Positively in one of the World’s Biggest Cities

CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing

Like many large cities, Hong Kong is a challenging place to grow old, and with an ever increasing older population it’s important to find ways to support older people to live happy productive lives. The Mission of the CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing is to carry out cross-disciplinary research and public education with a focus on ageing well. The Institute’s work comprises of frailty prevention and intervention through exercise classes and health checks, psychological well-being through counselling, field trips and engagement with younger people, preparation for the downhill trajectory of the ageing process, particularly amongst those with dementia. The underlying philosophy is guided by the World Health Organization’s life course approach to healthy ageing, and the factors that promote intrinsic capacity in the downhill trajectory phase, in particular the role of an age friendly city and the role of technology in ageing well.
