Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry has been an important part of Psychiatry for over 70 years. C-L Psychiatrists work in a broad variety of outpatient primary care and specialty settings, as well as inpatient medical/surgical and rehabilitation settings. C-L Psychiatrists bring unique and deep training and experience to the integration of psychiatric and medical care. When the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) certification for this sub-specialty was approved over 20 years ago, it was named “Psychosomatic Medicine.” The Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine (APM), APA, and ABPN have successfully persuaded ABMS to officially change the name of the sub-specialty to Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. APM has now officially changed its name to Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP) and is using this inaugural year of the new name to celebrate the breadth and depth of the sub-specialty.
