: The liver transplant program at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) is the largest in the Netherlands and one of the 4 oldest programs in Europe. The program was started in 1979 and more than 1400 liver transplant procedures have been performed in both adults and children. The UMCG is the only pediatric liver transplant program in the Netherlands. The program covers all types of solid organ transplantation and stem cell transplantation. The Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation group perform all types of liver, bile duct and pancreas surgery, including innovative techniques such as living donor liver transplantation and laparoscopic liver resections.
