The Better Place Approach

Bayside City Council, Australia

The City of Bayside, located about 10km outside of Melbourne is already a great place, but for Bayside City Council, improving people's quality of life and the services they offer is always a priority. Bayside City Council has developed a unique approach to describing how they create public value through The Better Place Approach. The Better Place Approach focuses Council's employees on striving to deliver against four key result areas (KRAs) for the community - Liveability, Service, People and Efficiency. New values and behaviours have been developed in direct consultation with staff, who provide a clear vision for how Bayside staff wants to approach its work and a how to be most helpful to and supportive to each other. As employees grow to have a greater understanding of what Bayside is striving to achieve and how they go about achieving it, the benefits to its residents will be ongoing.
