Heidelberg Collaboratory for Industrial Optimization (HCO)
A technology transfer venture at the IWR of Heidelberg University
Model-based simulation and optimization (MSO) methods have developed into a mathematical enabling technology, which has become increasingly important for the development of innovative products and processes in industry. While these tasks come from domains as diverse as the automotive industry, chemical and pharmaceutical engineering, the necessary mathematical solution methods and tools are essentially based on the same principles. The HCO exploits this fact and brings together researchers from complementary fields in industry and academia to create scaling effects and synergies.
Currently, the HCO consists of eight research groups at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) of Heidelberg University, working in the fields of MSO with complementary expertise. Its goals are to promote the use of advanced MSO methods in industrial applications, to identify and tackle future challenges in industrial optimization, and to establish and promote mid- and long-term strategic research collaborations between academia and industry.
