BOROWatch supporting public safety
Lansdale Borough Police Department
Lansdale Borough is located twenty miles north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was founded in 1872 upon the northward expansion of the Reading Railroad. Lansdale quickly became a regional destination for industry and culture in the suburbs north of Philadelphia. Today, Lansdale is home to a large modern regional transportation facility on the SEPTA commuter rail system into the City of Philadelphia. Through a collaborative effort between the Lansdale Police Department, other Borough Departments, and the Community, we are leveraging technology and building sustainable ties to the community in a partner-ship of public safety services.
In 2011, the Lansdale Borough Police Department created the BOROWatch, a citywide surveillance system to support public safety services. To accomplish this project, the Police Department worked in partnership with the Lansdale Borough Electric Department and the borough’s GIS Department to select the various locations to maximize efficiency of the technology. Today, the BOROWatch supports over 100 digital HD PTZ Cameras on a mesh-fiber network which reports back to the Police Department’s Headquarters in real-time which allowing Watch Commanders and Incident Commanders to have eyes on the major points of Commerce and transportation in our community.
