Prairie Heart Institute
Bridging Academia to Real World Practice
The chasm between academic institutions and non-academic medical practices has been widening. Academic programs are more and more focused on research, which is essential to advance our understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment of cardiac disease. Nonetheless, with the ever expanding set of clinical skills required to practice clinical cardiology and electrophysiology, it is necessary for some non-academic institutions to serve as a bridge in preparing young physicians not only to practice medicine in the real world, but also be involved in clinical research, teaching, and evidence-based medicine.
Prairie Heart Institute has been a leader in this role, extending the arm of clinical research to wider segments of patient population, extending the arm of academia to prepare physicians for efficient clinical practice, and extending the reach of state-of-the-art healthcare even to the most underserved segments of our patient population.
