Continence Centre - Dokkyo Medical University
Collaboration Across Disciplines for Advanced Continence Care
Dokkyo Medical University's Continence Center is Japan's first combined centre for the treatment of lower urinary tract dysfunction and bowel dysfunction, especially urinary and faecal incontinence. The centre involves a wide range of medical specialists collaborating on treatment, including four urologists, a general surgeon, a neurologist, gynaecologists, wound-ostomy and continence (WOC) nurses, a physio therapist and a technician.
Dokkyo offers a wide range of treatments for a number of continence issues, including mid urethral sling procedure for severe stress urinary incontinence; sacral neuromodulation, and tension-free vaginal mesh and laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse; as well as novel therapies involving injection of Autologous Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells for Postprostatectomy Urinary Incontinence.
Dokkyo is also focused on basic research to understand the causes and mechanisms of the diseases they treat, with researchers focused on the role of microRNA, as well as Master Transcription Factors in interstitial cystitis.
All these approaches allow for a holistic approach that allows Dokkyo Medical University's Continence Center to provide the best dedicated service to continence patients in Japan.
