Understanding Intracellular Calcium Signalling at Saarland University
Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 894 at Saarland University
The objective of Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 894 is a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in intracellular calcium signalling. More than 100 scientists at various stages of their careers are investigating the molecular basis calcium signalling and their effects on bodily function. The collaboration of scientists from fields such as biophysics, anatomy, cell biology, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry and internal medicine, making use of platform projects providing cutting edge technology, provides unique opportunities for research within the CRC 894. In this setting the origin, propagation and consequences of calcium ion-related signalling cascades are being studied. As the only German Medical School in Southwestern Germany West of the Rhine river, the Saarland University has a rich history of research with CRC funding, which goes back almost 50 years.
