The School of Engineering and Applied Science at Hofstra University is focused primarily on providing an optimal undergraduate educational experience in engineering and computer science. Effective teaching and involvement of students in their advanced research are hallmarks of the faculty staffing the two departments. With twenty five full-time faculty, and an equal number of professionals who serve as adjuncts, class sizes are small, so that personalized learning can take place in and beyond the lecture hall or laboratory. An excellent Co-op program, which offers eligible juniors or seniors with a six to eight month paid work experience with one of over eighty industry partners, alongside an array of summer internships for those choosing not to take a semester off for work, are great opportunities to gain valuable and marketable professional skills prior to graduation. Research projects involving work in one of the modern SEAS laboratories are also available for highly motivated students, and often lead to publication in scientific journals. Hence, whether the goal of the graduate is immediate employment in the technical arena, or the continuation of an education in graduate school, Hofstra SEAS students are well positioned, and data on outcomes (over 97% placement) bear this out.
