Eastern Michigan University Center for Health Disparities Innovation & Studies
Together, we make Asian Americans in Michigan Healthy.
Despite the myth that Asians are model minorities, there are health disparities among Asians in every aspects and levels. Eastern Michigan University Center for Health Disparities Innovation and Studies (CHDIS) aims to implement sustainable solutions to improve health and reduce health disparities seen in the community. One of funded projects housed in the CHDIS is Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) funded by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). In this five-year initiative, the team aims to reduce chronic disease burdens experienced among Asian Americans by working with our state-wide coalition to identify contributors of health disparities among Asian Americans and implementing policy, system, and environment change strategies to improve nutrition, physical activity, and community-clinical linkages. Moving forward, the CHDIS is well-positioned to make a major impact and address a wide range of critical health issues from chronic diseases, cancer screening to an urgent public health issue emerged recently, lead poisoning prevention in Detroit.
