Preventing the effects of ZIKA on Maternal and Child Health
State of Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene
There are communities in MD and the US at greater risk for infections like Zika, communities with connection to Central America and the Caribbean. The primary concern is for Maryland residents from those areas. The mission of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is to figure out how to reach out, communicate effectively with communities about prevention, and break down language barriers in order to inform communities about Zika in particular and about the possible birth defects. To make sure that pregnant women have access to resources for when they travel. This is done by expanding partnerships with the Maternal Child Health Bureau, the Immigrant Health Department, and family practitioners to improve the prevention and promotion of health issues in the State of Maryland.
