The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Comprehensive Transplant Center and Liver Program have provided exceptional care for patients in need of an organ transplant since 1967. Among the best and busiest centers in the nation, we are in the top 10 in the nation for transplant volume (tripling liver transplant volume over the past two years) and one of the best in Ohio for liver transplant outcomes, according to the most recent data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.
With more than 20 research centers and 25 core research laboratories, the Wexner Medical Center promotes collaboration from virtually all departments and divisions of The Ohio State University. Within our transplant program, scientists are researching ways to improve immune system acceptance of new organs and surgical outcomes and the molecular biology behind organ injury and repair. We are also working hard to advance organ perfusion: we were the first transplant center in Ohio to perform ex-vivo lung perfusion and will soon be testing this procedure for livers.
As a major academic medical center, Ohio State Wexner Medical Center is training the next generation of abdominal transplant surgeons and hepatologists, and have a unique opportunity to collaborate across our many disciplines to continuously set the standard for world-class transplant care.
