Providing Industry with the Future of Simulation Software

Center for Research on Innovative Simulation Software (CISS), Japan

Since 2002, the Center for Research on Innovative Simulation Software (CISS), based at the University of Tokyo has led government-funded projects aimed at developing cutting-edge simulation software for industrial use, as well as validating its benefits through strong collaboration with industrial partners. Projects have covered a wide area of simulations, including fluid-flow simulation, aero-acoustical simulation, nano-material and nano-function simulation, molecular-dynamics simulation, and more.

At present the Center is running a five-year long project named the Strategic Program for Innovative Research (SPIRE), sponsored by the Japanese Government and aimed at breakthroughs in computer science using supercomputer 'K', one of the largest supercomputers in the world. At the same time CISS is working closely with automobile manufacturers and suppliers through the Automobile Consortium Project, which aims to illustrate the practicality and benefit of utilising simulation in the car industry.
