North Carolina Department of Transport Description: North Carolina Department of Transport (NSDOT) has developed an extensive training program for their NCDOT State Farm Safety Patrol (aka Incident Management Assistance Patrol or IMAP) and Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operators. The NCDOT State Farm Safety Patrol's training program was developed over a period of 2 years using input from across the state. Using the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) as a foundation, NCDOT documented existing practices and developed new ones that every driver will be exposed to. It is designed to be a 4 week training program. Before this, each driver learned while on the job. The TMC Operator training program documents activities required from a TMC operator. This program is an 8 week program. Before developing this program, operators also learned while on the job.
