Loudoun County’s “tag line” is similar to ICMA’s 2016 conference theme: Where Tradition Meets Innovation. Loudoun is a unique part of the Washington Metropolitan area because it has two areas that are broadly referred to as Eastern and Western Loudoun. These areas offer suburban and rural residential options; dual economies, i.e., high-tech (e.g., data centers) and rural (e.g., wineries). As one of the fastest growing and wealthiest counties in the United States, Loudoun has worked hard to preserve its tradition while embracing and fostering its innovative development, which also includes innovative transportation solutions such as locally-funding road construction, and the construction of the Silver Line Metrorail extension. This has been accomplished, in part, through careful planning, specific land-use policies, and sound fiscal management.
