Summerville Police Department
Community Engagement in a Rapidly Growing Town
With its historic downtown and beautiful parks, Summerville is a very attractive place to live. As major industry chooses to move to the area, Summerville is a rapidly growing town, with approximately 34 people moving to the area every day. This growth, and the change it brings to Summerville’s community, presents new challenges to Summerville’s Police Department – but Summerville PD is ready to meet these head on with an active policy of community engagement, building trust in the community and understanding their priorities.
This is done through programs like the Police Cadet Post for young people aged 15-20, holding regular shift briefings out in the community rather than in the office and playing a leading role in Summerville’s “one town, one team” policy, working with other departments to make decisions as well as supporting the community through social and charity events.
At the same time as it evolves to meet the needs of its growing population, Summerville PD is also embracing new technology, as one of the first departments in South Carolina to fully equip bodycam technology, as well as as providing a state-of-the-art data storage system to allow police to easily identify footage and help tackle crime quicker. All this is helping make Summerville a safer place to live, now and into it’s bright future.
