ELEVATE: Strengthening Investigations and Building Community Trust
The nation's law enforcement agencies are increasingly understanding of the impact crime has not only on victims and their families, but on the community and their trust in law enforcement. Building community relationships enhances dialogue with law enforcement thereby promoting health, welfare and safety for all.
By addressing legal requirements, increasing resources and promoting safety, healing and recovery the impact of law enforcement response to victims of crime is clear: Victims are better able to cope with the impact of crime, help identify additional victims and witnesses, and contribute to the outcome of investigations.
With support from the Department of Justice, the FBI launched ELEVATE, Excellence in Law Enforcement-based Victim Assistance Training and Enrichment. Its mission is to identify effective practices for law enforcement-based victim services programs, and to create national standards to guide delivery of those services.
