Catalyzing Interdisciplinary International Research on Infectious Diseases: The UVA Global Infectious Diseases Institute
The University of Virginia Global Infectious Diseases Institute is a Pan-University Institute that brings together researchers of different scholarly disciplines, from multiple schools at the University of Virginia, to conduct transdisciplinary research that addresses the most pressing global infectious challenges of our time. The research portfolio of the Institute has focused on antibiotic resistance, diarrheal diseases, and outbreaks of pandemic potential, with COVID-19 being the most recent example. As local subject matter experts, the Institute builds interdisciplinary teams, launches their initial collaborative research endeavours through seed grant programs, and showcases their successes to stakeholders in the community and around the world.
