Innlandet Hospital Trust
High-Volume Surgery and Excellent Patient Care
Sykehuset Innlandet HF is a small non-university hospital offering cutting edge diagnostic, treatment and surgical services to a very large region of central Norway. For a small hospital, doctors perform surgery in very high volumes. For instance, the Department of Urology's two stone surgeons perform over 350 surgeries a year.
The Department of Urology includes seven urologists working across a number of specialties, and aims to provide the very best in diagnostic and surgical interventions. For instance, the hospital was the first in the world to use table motion technology in robotic surgery. At the same time the department is focused on shared-decision making, making sure patients are involved in the decisions made about their treatment.
Urologists in the department are able to provide targeted biopsies for diagnosis and treatment planning, patients use a smartphone app to provide detailed reporting before and after surgery, while decisions are made together with colleagues in multi-disciplinary meetings across the region. At the same time the department has a specialized nurse in the first assistant surgical role, forming a consistent tight-knit team to perform surgery at the speed and efficiency required to serve the large region.
