The department of Urology at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are actively involved in prostate related clinical research, which is central to providing a
high quality service for patients. Hampshire Hospitals achieve this by collaborating closely with larger teaching Hospitals and also by building a dedicated local team which includes
theatre staff, trials practitioners as well as colleagues in Radiology and Histopathology. Hundreds of men have been recruited into trials in the last 5 years. This work has raised the profile of the Department and the Hospital. They are involved with trials relating to prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment and this includes the recent Lancet PROMIS (prostate MRI) publication. The department's expertise in minimally invasive treatments for both benign and malignant prostate is growing rapidly. The department of Urology at Basingstoke Hospital is one of the leading
centres in the UK offering focal therapy for prostate cancer and have now 7 years experience using HIFU for focal ablation. Furthermore, they are soon to be the first UK
centre to trial a new treatment for BPH (benign
non cancerous enlargement) in addition to their status as a reference
centre
for NICE for Greenlight prostate surgery.
