: Hundreds of different bacteria, archaea, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms call the human body their home. They comprise what is known as the human microbiome, and many serve a beneficial function when it comes to our biological processes and health. With experts from across campus and beyond, the Host Microbiome Initiative builds upon the University of Michigan’s strengths in microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, immunology, and clinical medicine to “fast forward” the understanding of how microbes interact with their host.
