The ENIGMA Consortium is a network of over 700 scientists from 35 countries, conducting the largest studies of the brain in the world, as a cooperative activity bringing together experts in medicine, genetics imaging, and mathematics worldwide. Organized into 30 working groups, ENIGMA has already published the world’s largest studies of several brain disorders - schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder - and ENIGMA leads worldwide studies of 15 brain diseases, from epilepsy to Parkinson’s disease and anorexia. As a pioneering approach for the worldwide study of the brain, ENIGMA’s scientists are cracking the brain’s genetic code – discovering markers in the human genome and lifestyle factors that affect the brain, its connectivity, and our risk for brain disease.
