A new joint program at McMaster University between the faculties of Engineering and Health Sciences aims to not only educate students in the skills they’ll need to work in either field, but to facilitate the kind of collaboration between the two that will be required to solve the health problems of the of the future. The Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences program will integrate the fundamentals of biological and medical sciences with engineering and physical sciences. Students will have the option of earning either a health sciences degree or a degree from engineering, and will focus on problem-based learning throughout the five years. Students will be presented with real world health problems and have to come up with solutions. With a focus on innovation, design, and entrepreneurship, students will leave the program ready to solve some of the major challenges of the coming decades.
