Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris

IPGP

IPGP (located in a new campus in the heart of Paris) is one of the very few institutions worldwide developing intensive research in all fields of Earth and planetary science at all scales in time and space, including developing links with astrophysics. The research is organized in 16 research groups and can be described in four major themes: Earth and planetary interiors Natural hazards Earth system science Origins Research associates Earth observation on the continents at sea and from space, laboratory studies, experimentation and development of conceptual and analytical models. It relies on five platforms - parallel computing and data treatment, high-resolution analysis, geomicrobiology, mineral magnetism, ocean bottom seismometers - and numerous lab equipment. IPGP is recognized by French, European and US agencies (CNES, ESA and NASA) as a space science institute.
